Garmin Forerunner 405 – Unboxing

Garmin 405 I am still catching up on my great birthday presents. Tongue out My wife got me another great gift – a Garmin Forerunner 405 Wireless GPS-Enabled Sports Watch with Heart Rate Monitor. This is my third Garmin Forerunner (I have the 205 and the 305) and a very welcome addition to my collection!

So what makes this latest Garmin better that the rest? I am glad you asked.

  • Awesome, crisp screen with bright backlight
  • Touch bezel for navigating options
  • Much faster at aquiring satelite signal
  • Smaller / sleeker design
  • Wireless upload to GarminConnect

I have been using this watch for almost 6 weeks now and it truely awesome. All of the things I didnt like about my “old school” 305 has been addressed and them some in this latest iteration.

Enjoy the unboxing pictures! Tongue out

I’ve been eyeing the 405, though I’m still a happy 205 user. Eventhough it looks like I’m a couple of dominos on my wrist, I like the big numbers (since I wear reading glasses, but NOT when I’m running!) on the 205, as well as the ability to have several screens of info on my wrist. Have you tried displaying more than one data field on the 405?

I’ve had the 205, 305, and now the 405. And yes it is true that the numbers are a little smaller on the 405 but not difficult to see by any means. And in low light the screen backlight is AWESOME.

As far as screens go… the 405 works just the older models. You can auto scroll screens and such, but due to rounded shape you can only fit 3 fields per screen (not 4 like previous models). Like I said in the review I still think this is my favorite so far due to the smaller (non “domino”) design ;-) , faster gps, and better backlight. The wireless transfer to the computer is cool too!

Id say check it out in person and see what you think.

By the way, the pictures I posted had the watch in “Date/Time” mode, not training mode. That’s why there is only on field (time) showing.

Here’s a good picture of it with 3 fields:
