Heart Rate Monitoring

So I broke down and ordered the Garmin Forerunner 305 to get into the heart rate monitoring scene.  With this hot weather I think knowing exactly how hard my body is working is a good thing.  I want to make sure that I am not under training, nor over training.

I am just beginning to learn, but according the “Best Fit Formula” from How To Be Fit my max heart rate is 193.

Here’s the formula to try for yourself:

210 minus 50% of your age minus 5% of your body weight (pounds) + 4 if male and 0 if female = Estimated Maximum heart rate.

Once you know your max HR you can set threshold levels 60%-70% MAX, 80%-90% MAX, etc… and plan your workouts accordingly.

I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
