Bart Yasso is a running legend. He has been Chief Running Officer at Runner’s World for the past 23 years, was inducted into the Runner USA Hall of Champions in 2007, and is known in many circles as the “mayor of running”. Bart is also the inventor of the Yasso 800.
I knew all about Bart for years, but was unaware he had written a book until Beth from Housewife on the Run gave me the heads up. Thanks Beth!
I finished this book months ago and have been meaning to write this review for a while. Since I am spending this week recovering from the New York City Marathon, I finally have the time.
Bart has completed more than 1,000 races and ran on all seven continents. He tells the stories of his favorite adventures with tremendous wit and humor. This book will hold your attention and keep you laughing from start to finish.
Some of Bart’s more memorable stories include:
- Mount Kilimanjaro
- Badwater Ultra
- Cross-Country Journey
- Bare Buns Fun Run (held in a nudist colony)
- Burro Racing (yes, that’s racing with a donkey)
- Antarctica Marathon
The suffix of the book also contains some training plans, which I have yet to delve too deeply into. Bart also includes a list of his favorite races from around the globe. These favorites would make a great “bucket list” for any runner.
Simply put, this book is awesome. I was a fast and fun read that I highly recommend.
